Esterilização/spaying & neutering

Why we spay and neuter our rescue dogs.

Thank you to Portucool who have been raising money to help with sterilisation surgery.
This is a most important part of our work.
Here are three of the top reasons to sterilise:

• Prevent unplanned puppies.
Sterilisation is a responsible way to prevent accidental breeding resulting in unwanted puppies.
• Reduction of certain health risks.
Sterilisation can lead to a reduction in certain health risks for both female and male dogs. Unspayed females can develop a painful and life-threatening infection of the uterus called pyometra and are also at a higher risk of mammary tumors. Neutering a male dog prevents testicular cancer and reduces the risk of other problems, such as prostate disease.
• May help with certain behaviour issues.
In addition to reducing roaming, sterilisation can often, though not always, help reduce or eliminate undesirable behaviours and may also decrease aggressive behaviour in some dogs.
If you want to know more about how to sterilise your dog, talk to us or contact your local vet.
